About Jeanette Butler
My interest in art began at an early age but it was not until later in life that I developed my artistic passion. Working in the information technology industry, I enjoy the escape that painting brings and the opportunity to express my natural creativity. Visual art provides an avenue for me to explore ideas and impressions from a personal perspective, unbounded by the rigours of the computer world. My formal journey into the art world started in 2006. Since then, with the help of Kim Mancini from Mancini Art I have explored many mediums and techniques. I have familiarised myself with acrylics, oil and gouache although it is acrylics that I’m most comfortable in. The subjects I choose to paint reflect my love of nature and the outdoors. This includes landscapes, wildlife and human interaction with the environment. Having moved from Canada to Australia in 2001 I’m inspired by the beautiful and diverse country side Australia has to offer. I have recently started exploring ideas around the contrasts of city and country life. This reflects the contrasts of the small towns where I lived in Canada and where I now live in Brisbane. As an emerging artist I continue to expand my abilities by taking a variety of art courses. I continue to study with Kim Mancini and have completed courses at the Brisbane Institute of Art. I’m an active member of Artists Afloat, a group of artists that I joined in 2010. I have exhibited at the RNA show in Brisbane and at Seaside Artist Gallery in Redcliffe where I was featured as the emerging artist in Dec 2008 and won highly commended at the Pine Rivers Show in 2007.
